Four Faculty Pillars: Part II
After the eight Learning Leaders (two for each pillar) had drafted, revised, and edited the defining statements (see post "Four Faculty Pillars: Part I"), we had these swell logos created, and hung them in every classroom. Then, we used the first Faculty meeting of the school year to share our plan with everyone.
We did it like this:
- I gave an introduction about the purpose of the pillars: to define our faculty, to create ethos, to come together.
- Each pair of Learning Leaders presented their 12 slides with the 12 defining statements on them.
- Faculty were then asked to choose a pillar based on either their own interest/expertise or their desire to learn more about it.
- Then we broke into "Learning Teams" -- one for each pillar. The learning teams (which have since become referred to as simply "the pillars") met and discussed the following question for 30 minutes:
- Where do we see these ideals at work in our school? By our faculty, by our students; in our classrooms, teams, or clubs?
- We came back together as a whole faculty to share our answers for about 20 minutes. Then, we returned to our pillar groups to discuss the following question for 30 minutes:
- How would we like to promote these ideals in ways that we aren't currently, and what would we need in order to do that?
- We returned again as a whole faculty to share our responses.
